The dress slides on over the head and fastens with a single hook at the back of the neck

This beautiful coat was made in the 1940s from pale sky blue bouclé wool

covering the long rear metal zipper

however there are some worn patches to the fur which are hidden in the fluffiness

There are also two matching fabric covered buttons that fasten the coat at the waist in a double breasted configuration and some fabulous triangular seam work at the sides of the bodice

It is a rare example of a wartime conversion where women left behind during the war converted the husbands suits into womenswear to combat fabric shortages, a true make do and mend piece. The suit was crafted from an earlier Montague Burtons mens suit that would have been splendid in its own right. Padded shoulders and a nipped waist give it the classic hourglass
